UAE Tax Residency Certificate
Read Carefully

Learn how to obtain a UAE tax residency certificate for your business by following the steps highlighted in this article.

A Tax Residency Certificate (TRC) is an official document produced by the UAE Ministry of Finance. The certificate allows a company to take advantage of double taxation treaties signed by the UAE.

With double taxation agreements with over 130 countries – the Emirates has been proactive in signing these agreements with countries across the globe. For a complete list of current UAE double taxation agreements, please visit the Ministry of Finance website.

Even when there is no double tax treaty between the UAE and a foreign country, the residency certificate can serve as the official confirmation of the tax residency of a legal entity in the United Arab Emirates.

Requirements to Apply for a UAE Tax Residency Certificate for Your Business

Tax Residency Certificates are available to both free zone businesses and mainland businesses that have been active for more than one year. However, they are not available for Offshore Companies, popularly known as International Business Companies (IBC), as they conduct their business outside the UAE.

We Recommend the Following Documents to Apply for the UAE Tax Residency Certificate:

  • Valid UAE Trade License – free zone or mainland
  • A copy of the Memorandum of Association
  • A copy of the Chamber of Commerce Certificate or Certificate of Incumbency
  • Copy of the tenancy contract or title deed of your business premises
  • Passport copy, valid UAE resident visa copy, and Emirates ID copy of the company directors and shareholders
  • Audited financial statements or UAE company bank statements from the last six months

When you have your documents, convert them to pdf format and create an account on the Ministry of Finance portal. And, once the records are accepted, you will receive an approval notice and payment request within a week. The current fees for a company certificate are AED 10,010.

The document is valid for one year with the possibility of renewal if the company is active. You will need the same documents at the time of renewal.
